With the devaluation of the Yurchenko full, most teams won't have a lineup with six 10.0 start values, which makes those that have these coveted skills all the more valuable. See all the gymnasts that have competed or are training one of the many 10.0 vaults. Don't see someone on the list you know is working an upgraded vault? Let us know in the comments or on social media, so we can add her! Please note that freshmen will be considered training their 10.0 vault until they compete it in a college competition.

We’re back with another bonus lineup analysis, this time featuring the Eastern Michigan Eagles! After losing key senior Kimberly Ebeyer and nationals qualifier Rachel Slocum to a transfer, new head coach Sarah Shire Brown will have some work to do if EMU hopes to improve on its stellar 17th place finish at the end of postseason. With the addition of four freshmen, each of whom seems capable of making at least one lineup, can the Eagles start off the Brown era with a bang?
By Caroline Medley For our next bonus lineup team, we’ll tackle the Southern Utah Thunderbirds! Finishing the regular 2016 season at No. 23, they’ll hope to take their upward momentum even further in 2017. Losing seniors Arlyn Amor and Natalie Trejo shouldn’t hurt them too much, as Amor was injured last season and Trejo mostly contributed to beam and floor, where the team will have plenty of options in the coming year. Would-be sophomore Caitlyn Kessel will also not be returning this season, so routines will be lost on vault and bars as well. However, SUU will have a large class of freshmen, at a whopping eight gymnasts, so replenishing routines shouldn’t be a problem. Vault will only see the loss of Kessel, but most of the Thunderbirds will return to the lineup. Mady Blake, Tyly Bozzuto, Danielle Ramirez and Stacie Webb should all bring back their Yurchenko fulls, while Virginia Brownsell and Karen Gonzalez will return some different vaults. Brownsell returns her 10.0 SV handspring pike half, while Gonzalez should return a Tsuk entry as well. Freshman Maddy McBride should have another 10.0 vault to add to the mix, a Yurchenko 1.5, though she may start out with just a full to focus in on her landing. Autumn Jorgensen, Megan McBride and Gabby Spencer should also be in contention for lineup spots with their own fulls. By Caroline Medley In the first of our bonus set of potential lineup articles, we’ll tackle the Boise State Broncos, coming off of what may be their most successful year ever, finishing the regular season No. 15. However, after losing seniors Maddie Krentz, Krystine Jacobsen, Molly McFarland and Marissa Wossner, BSU will have a fair amount of ground to make up, as each of them contributed regularly to at least one event. With their incoming class of five freshmen, including two international elites fresh from the Rio Olympic Games, the Broncos should almost certainly be up to the challenge.

Last, but certainly not least, we’ll check out the Michigan State Spartans! Having lost a crucial class of seniors, including nationals qualifier Lisa Burt, as well as Brittany Holmes, Ashley Noll and Haley Sedgewick, the team will have some rebuilding to do. But with fifth-year senior Nicola Deans returning and the addition of stellar freshmen Ella Douglas and Ally Hoyer, MSU may be able to improve on its 36th place finish from last season.
On vault, all four of the graduating seniors will be missed, but especially Sedgewick. Her Yurchenko full-on back pike was the team’s only 10.0 vault last season, so with only 9.95 vaults returning to their arsenal, the Spartans are going to have to step it up. Barring any upgrades, all returning vaults should be Yurchenko fulls. MSU should see Deans, Anna Gamelo, Drew Hendershot, Elena Lagoski and Roya Shirley contending for lineup spots as veterans. Both Douglas and Hoyer also bring useable fulls to the table, and so does Brittni Chappell, a now-sophomore who didn’t compete last year. In her J.O. days, her full was significantly cleaner than many of MSU’s returning vets. If she’s up to it, she could put up a fight for a lineup spot. |
