2016-2017

The regular signing period began April 13. Gymnasts will have until early August to sign National Letters of Intent for the 2016-2017 season. Many gymnasts that don't sign during the early period in November sign now. This could be due to a number of factors, including waiting to prove themselves to college coaches during their senior J.O. seasons, waiting to see if they are eligible to graduate early among other reasons. Take a look at who all has signed so far since the regular period began roughly two weeks ago.
The 2016 season has come to a close, and there's a good eight months until the 2017 season begins. But even with all that time until we finally get more NCAA gymnastics, it doesn't mean we can't starting making predictions. Looking at graduating seniors, incoming freshmen and transfers/deferrals, our panel of gymternet experts has analyzed which teams they think will be competing the final night of the season a year from now. For the last predictions of the season, we brought back the old standbys: Lauren from The Gymternet, Spencer from The Balance Beam Situation, Casey — everyone's favorite Bay Area blonde -- and Elizabeth from NCAA Gym News.
Now that the season's over, it's time to reflect on the most important part of the season: the fashion. While some leotards didn't hit the mark, others were drool-worthy and need to be relived. So in this leotard recap, we look back on some of our favorite leotards of the season, including those that scored a 9.0 or higher in our weekly rankings. We also announce the team leotard champion for 2016 based off averages of weekly scores for teams with at least five leotards judged.
9.0+ Leotard Club
Teams brought out the big guns and the fancy duds at nationals with gorgeous new leotards for one last hoorah to end the season. Casey is back for the end-of-season party. And as always the judging criteria remains the same: up to three points for design, two points for fabric and sparkle, two points for school spirit and three points for overall appearance to equal a grand total of 10 points.
Let us know on Twitter or in the comments below what you thought of this weekend’s leotards and if we missed any of your favorites. Also make sure you check back next week for the season leotard wrap up. Find out which teams had the best season in terms of fashion and which could have done more.
