Washington Huskies
The Huskies are regular qualifiers to the NCAA Regional Championship and frequently bring individuals to nationals. The team has appeared eight times at the AIAW/NCAA National Championships, with the last coming in 1998 where it finished seventh. During the 2016 season, the Huskies finished seventh at the Pac-12 Championship, and senior Allison Northey qualified to the NCAA National Championships in the all-around. The 2017 season will bring in a brand new coaching staff, with Joanne Bowers stepping down after 10 seasons and 2000 U.S. Olympian Elise Ray being named the sixth head coach of the program. Bowers's tenure was successful, as she took the team to regionals in each of her ten seasons after the Huskies missed out in 2006 for the first time in school history. She has also sent individuals to NCAAs in seven of her ten seasons (2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016), the first Huskies to compete at nationals since 2004. Yumi Mordre is the sole national champion for Washington, winning vault and beam in 1987, as well as placing second in the all-around that same year.
