The Cardinal have the reputation of starting the season slowly and peaking right on time for postseason, and 2016 was no exception. After a fifth-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships, the team pulled an upset at the Ann Arbor Regional, coming in as a third seed and tying for first, thus qualifying to the NCAA National Championship for the ninth time in the past 10 years and 16th overall. Under the leadership of 2015 vault national champion Elizabeth Price, the Cardinals finished 10th overall and Price collected awards in the all-around and bars (fourth). The Stanford gymnastics team has also won five conference titles (1998, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008). The Cardinal counts many national, world and Olympic team members from around the world among its alumni, including Larissa Fontaine, Tabitha Yim, Kristina Vaculik, Shona Morgan, Carly Janiga, Ivana Hong and Rebecca Wing.
