Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Golden Gophers are always contenders for the conference title, regularly qualify to regionals, and often send individuals to nationals. The team has won the Big Ten title five times (1988, 1989, 1991, 1998, 2006) and was the Big Ten regular season champion in 2013 and 2014. The Gophers are coming off a very successful 2016 campaign after qualifying as a team to the NCAA National Championships for the first time since 2013. They finished in 12th place after rocky bars and beam rotations. This was the fourth team trip to nationals in program history. Senior Lindsay Mable, undoubtedly the program’s greatest, finished fifth in the all-around, fourth on bars and also won the prestigious AAI Award. The Gophers also placed third at the Big Ten Championships. Some other great program alumni are 1990 uneven bars national champion Marie Roethlisberger, Mary Anne Kelley and Carolyn Yernberg.
