Eastern Michigan Eagles
The Eagles are coming off a historic 2016 season. They won their second MAC title (the first one was in 2007), qualified to the NCAA Regional Championship as a team for the first time, and then-sophomore Rachel Slocum became the program’s second ever NCAA National Championships qualifier. The team finished the season ranked as the No. 17 team in the country which marked the highest ranking ever in school’s history. The Eagles had a fantastic regional meet, as they finished fourth but were just 0.275 away from tying first-place Stanford and Auburn and from a berth to nationals.
In 2017, the team will be challenged by the loss of head coaches Jay and Jess Santos who were hired at ASU, and by the transfer of Slocum, their best gymnast, to Florida. The new coaching staff led by Sarah Brown will look to repeat the successful results from the past season.
