We’re already into week three, and good and bad things have already happened. There have been the fair share of season-ending injuries (ugh!) as well as the fair share of great, beautiful, exciting gymnastics. Some surprising teams and shaping up to be contenders at least in their conferences if not at regionals and others are underperforming and looking to step up their game.

By Elizabeth Grimsley, Christina Marmet and Caroline Medley We’ve got the first two weekends of the 2017 collegiate gymnastics season under our belts! Doesn’t it feel nice to be back? The start of the season also means we can finally come up with realistic rankings rather than that thing that came out before the season started that most of the head coaches crafted up.
Rather than looking at last year’s results, we watched the meets from the past who weekends to get a sense of where teams stand relative to each other. From there we ranked teams we think should be in the top 10, based on our opinions of how they look. If you followed along with our power rankings last season, you’ll remember we typically had a theme to go along with our posts. However, for this first edition in 2017, we’re straight shooting. The themes will start the next round. If you’re a traditionalist or numbers freak, you can look at the Road to Nationals official rankings here. |
